Side note: Would it be too unnecessarily complicated to change the turn signals to use the same bulbs as the taillights (American style, fuck yeah) so I can paint all of the amber black? Or would that not even look any good?

Not a big yellow fan. Someone who lives near me has a red C7 and that looks gorgeous.

For the taillights, it should just be a matter of cutting the positive wire to each turn signal (at the end where it goes to the light) and splicing it into the positive wire of that side's brake light (there should already be 3 wires to the red housing: ground, brake light, and park light).

While I'm a fan of amber turn signals myself, it wouldn't look bad:
